Principal Corner

A few weeks ago, we had some basketball games at the Trinity gym. We won all three games but that is not what this post is about. We must move lunch tables and other items out of the gym and set up benches and the score clock and pull out all the bleachers to get the gym ready for basketball game. Lane Hartfiel sets the gym up each time we have games, and we are all very thankful for that. But when the games get over at 7, 8 or later some evenings, a few of us, with some help sometimes from parents, put away everything brought out, and put back the lunch tables, mats, and recess equipment stored in the gym. At the end of the three games, some of the players went back out on the floor to shoot baskets. I told them they should help put everything back and then they could shoot. This was met with a mixed reaction from the students on the floor. So, the next day in my 5th/6th religion class I talked about what happened the previous evening and asked the students to write about why they should be willing to help when asked by a staff member at TLS. I received very well thought out responses from the students understanding that faith is more than just words, it is actions. If we want to be like Jesus, we need to follow his example of helping others. Then I read my devotions for a few days after this event and here is a quote, “Christian service, in it purest form, is nothing more than imitating him whom we see. To see his majesty and it imitate him, that is the sum of Christianity.” We are not perfect at TLS, but we have the opportunity to minister to our students 7 plus hours a day for 170 school days, and we get to share with them, train them, and love them as Jesus loves us so that each day they have the opportunity to be a little more like Jesus.

Clothing for Cold Weather

What to wear when the weather turns cold?  Here are the guidelines we use to determine what the students should wear outside. Be advised that we are very firm on these rules, so please make sure that your child has the appropriate clothing that is needed.

Below 55, they need long sleeves.

Below 50, they need a sweatshirt or jacket.

Below 40, they need a winter coat, head covering (hat, headband or earmuffs, NOT just a hood), and gloves or mittens. If they do not have the correct type of coat, or head covering, they will need to borrow from someone else, or use something from the Lost and Found. We do not have kids stay inside unless they are sick.

To play in the snow, they must also have snow pants and boots. They will need to stand on the sidewalk if they do not have either of these items.

If it is muddy outside, we will require the students to wear boots, even if there is no snow.  This is to make sure we don’t track a lot of dirt into the classrooms.

SLEDS that are soft/foam or roll up may be brought and left at school.

EVERYONE should have a pair of tennis shoes that stays at school for gym class and if they forget their shoes.
